NMHC will sponsor five regional speaker series events to connect the industry’s up-and-coming leaders with industry titans and to help emerging leaders build their professional peer network.

This year’s schedule includes the following events:

  • April 4 – Miami
  • June – Denver
  • September – Seattle
  • October – Houston
  • November 7 – Atlanta

And the Winner Is…. Ben Stoll

Three of NMHC’s Emerging Leaders went head to head at the NMHC Annual Meeting in  January in our version of Shark Tank.

Ari Abramson of Continental Realty Corporation, Shawn Hansen with Greystar and Ben Stoll with Equity Residential presented their best investment deals to a mock investment committee that included John Akin with Gables Residential, Katie Bloom with Goldman Sachs and Chris Lackett from PGIM Real Estate and last year’s Young Gun winner.

Abramson presented a 2016 vintage, six-story mid-rise Class A core investment opportunity in the heart of Raleigh, N.C.  Hansen pitched a value-add opportunity on Wilshire Boulevard in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles. Stoll sought (and secured) the win with a new construction deal in Washington, D.C.’s Mount Vernon neighborhood.

The judges praised all the deals, but ultimately decided that, if they had a limited allocation allotment, they would go with Stoll’s ground-up development.

Emerging Leaders Connect at the NMHC Annual Meeting

More than 250 young, rising professionals attended the 2018 Annual Meeting, using the special Emerging Leaders registration option that gives their firm a “plus one” to their registration caps for an under-40 rising star.  They brought fresh talent and energy to the halls and enriched the program.

In addition to the Young Guns panel, the Emerging Leaders hosted a special opening night reception so attendees could have an opportunity to meet each other before the full slate of activities began.

There was also an Emerging Leaders lunch, giving attendees another opportunity to network with peers. Mark your calendars for next year’s Annual Meeting January 29-31 in San Diego.
