Treasury / IRS Issue Favorable Opportunity Zone Guidance

The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service issued detailed proposed regulations on October 19 regarding the new Opportunity Zone tax incentive. The regulations are a major victory for the multifamily industry and adopt numerous recommendations made by NMHC/NAA as part of a letter and meeting with Treasury Department officials.

As the International Code Council (ICC) nears the end of the first development phase on the 2021 national model building codes, NMHC/NAA have prepared a document to help members make the case for the industry’s priorities before the final ICC hearings (October 24-29) when proposals will be finalized.

STUDENT HOUSING RESEARCH 

NMHC and RealPage recently released new research that evaluates cost differences between on-campus and off-campus housing. The study, focusing on 22 universities around the country, found that despite frequently charging lower rents, on-campus dorms offered less value than off-campus purpose-built student housing.
