2017 NMHC OPTECH Recap
Peter Diamandis, founder and executive chairman of XPRIZE Foundation, delivers a fascinating keynote on creating a culture of innovation during the 2017 NMHC OPTECH Conference & Exposition.

The 2017 NMHC OPTECH Conference & Exposition brought together more than 1,700 apartment executives and technology partners last week in Las Vegas.

The meeting featured nearly 150 participating speakers and more than 40 sessions focused on emerging trends and strategies in technology, operations, marketing, sustainability and telecom. Our keynote sessions covered everything from creating a culture of innovation to ways to develop so-called “sticky talent” and improve staff retention. The exhibit hall also was a hive of activity with 115 exhibitors on site, including 12 start-ups, showcasing the latest and greatest products and services. Check out some of the key themes and major takeaways below.

We’d also to announce for the first time our three NMHC OPTECH Challenge winners. Congratulations to:

Kimberly Nicholson from Greystar Real Estate Partners, who won a $250 AmEx gift card; Angela Kralovec from BlackRock Realty, who took home a $500 AmEx gift card; and Carlos Galvez from Rise Real Estate Company who nabbed a $750 AmEx gift card for participating in our app game.

NMHC thanks all sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and attendees for their contributions to another successful OPTECH. We look forward to seeing everyone in Orlando next November at the 2018 NMHC OPTECH.

The Long Tail of Apartment Demand

When evaluating the demand for amenity packages against investment in those features and services, it’s also important to also keep sight on the strength of overall demand for apartments going forward. We need to be sure we’re building and renovating our communities and amenity spaces so they can be relevant down the line

To that end, NMHC’s Senior Director for Research Caitlin Walter presented some recent apartment demand research conducted by Hoyt Advisory Services and released by NMHC/NAA, highlighting some of the most notable findings. The upshot? The U.S. is going to need 4.6 million new apartments by 2030. What will this mean for your investments and operations?

Thank You
